From our Kitchen to Yours

As homesteaders settled the Texas Plains in the late 1800s, they bought their staples - coffee, flour, sugar, syrup - from local mercantile stores. Many stores created their own brands of kitchen goods and baked products.

Following that legacy, Fiddlesticks Mercantile offers the same small batch quality in our baked goods, cooking extracts, flavor syrups, and other sundries.

  • The Fiddlestick

In 1970, Dennis Sensing purchased "Fiddlesticks Farm", a 3-acre homestead and rural souther Indiana, and moved his young family there to start a career as a public school wood shop teacher. For the next 31 years, every student's first project in woodworking class was a fiddlestick, a kitchen utensil used to pull oven racks. Dennis taught several generations that superb craftsmanship attends to details and uses only the best materials.

  • Legacy

Today, Dennis' daughter and son-in-law continue his legacy of excellence through Fiddlesticks Mercantile. Our extracts, pastes, sugars, syrups, and other products are made with the best available ingredients and materials. We personally inspect each item before hand-packing it for sale. We even use our own products in our baked goods.

  • Value

Our parents taught us the meaning of "value" - that excellent products made with care with the finest materials and ingredients are always better, always worth it. We make our products in small batches and lots so we can control their quality and provide value to our customers. We think Dennis would approve. We think you will, too.
